![]() In general, the worst are near access points, in the front of your parcel, and they should never be chosen randomly purely by timber stand rotation or timber management. There is NO SET for access, just concepts that need to be applied to the existing situation.Ģ. Same with a NE corner, or basically any top, corner, or side around the entire parcel. For example, you may have a heavy NW corner that matches up great with an adjacent funnel/bedding area that is almost impossible for a neighbor to access without pushing deer onto your property. HOWEVER, this is not to say that on a small parcel your best bedding cover could not be in a corner, right on your property line. Vertical properties are no different in that exterior access is a must while protecting the integrity of the heart. A north E/W trail and a south E/W trail can still get you around the heart of the property even though you are accessing with the wind. This is especially critical when accessing parcels from west to east, typically with the seasonal wind patterns. These stand positions can then be pinched or defined with various tools such as fencing, cuttings, tunneling, planting, or even small food sources to keep the deer at your feet and into the wind instead of at your back and with the wind in their favor. If the property runs horizontally a north E/W trail and a south E/W trail can protect the center of the property but allow you as the hunter/landowner to have several cuts into the heart of the parcel or at least into the edge of the heart of the parcel so that you can access stand positions. ![]() BUT, that access does not generally mean west to east right through the center of the property except for parcels several hundred acres or more in which the parcel more encompasses the daily lives of various family groups. West to East access is best the majority of the time, but that is subject to existing habitat in and around the parcel. I wanted to offer a bit of a framework of what I look for when visiting a property for a client so that some of you that would never consider hiring a consultant can at least have an idea of what to look for and what angles should be covered.ġ. Sorry for this very, very long story., and thank you for reading it.Wow.my deer season is over, and it's "Habitat Time"!! I feel extremely fortunate to either manage deer habitat or hunt deer year round and as my friends probably remember me saying often, "I'm pretty lucky!" as it relates to being able to do what I do. I would claim that the machine AI is doing a pretty good job. So, if you are up for a good beating, take a stroll through the canyon NE of Hjalmers. Now back to the depot only to discover that the second harvester carcass had disappeared too (and thereby another batch of loot), this time being replaced by a runner and four seekers. This repeated itself four times! At the end I almost couldn’t get out of the cabin for dead hunters (15 or so). Back to Hjalmars to take them out while standing on the washing basin. So I re-spawned at Hjalmars and ran back to the canyon (fourth mistake) only to discover that my harvester carcass (and thereby my loot) had disappeared, being replaced by a fresh set of hunters and seekers buzzing around my ears like mosquitos. Three times, actually, but I only had two adrenaline shots. Now the hunters stepped in with gas, grenades, and bullets. Inside the depot I used my remaining few health packs while taking down the harvester and a few runners. In front of the depot a harvester was hanging out with a pack of runners and an additional few hunters. I ran for a depot with 9 hunters tailing me. I had no other choice than to run right past the three hunters with my health at 18%. ![]() And then three hunters appeared above me on the cliff sides. ![]() Just to discover that another three hunters had cut me off at the other mouth. Then I moved towards my kills to claim my loot (third mistake), and three very angry hunters showed up. And they were! Took them all down (second mistake). I spotted s harvester and a few runners at the far mouth, found cover behind s rock and thought “easy targets”. Uttern I survived fine, but NW of Hjalmars Stuga I found this wonderful, narrow canyon and went in there (first mistake). I’ve been in the Kilslaget area (Uttern bunker and Hjalmars Stuga) and my Gosh they are swarming in from all corners of the world. Is it just me or do hunters and seekers spawn like crazy these days? I seem to encounter an endless stream of seekers followed by an even more endless supply of hunters.
